This Empire chest and side chairs display the dramatic contrast after a piece has been professionally and correctly restored. The Crotch Mahogany that was chosen for the drawer fronts now has the depth and clarity in which the maker intended. Careful restoration work should allow a piece to look it’s age but be in great condition as opposed to looking redone and new.

Over the past 20 years we have had the opportunity to create quite a few unique and custom pieces of furniture for The Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. These pieces are one of a kind and are designed to blend with existing decor. Many of these works required old – world techniques in order to achieve the desired results such as carving and specialized veneer work.

For the better part of two decades, RPS has been providing high quality wood working and furniture repair and restoration. We offer a broad spectrum of capabilities, from minor furniture repairs to the complete design and building of custom furniture, wall units, and libraries.
Specialty work includes the preservation of fine and valued antiques, from investments to family heirlooms. This focus makes us uniquely qualified to handle a variety of wood working tasks.
Our craftsmen employ a broad range of skills in their work, many of which have been long forgotten. The arts of joinery, inlay, veneer application, carving, and lathe turning are all a part of our daily operations. The demands of accurate recreation or preservation of hand applied finishes finds us using many talents and techniques not found in most wood working shops.
Although recent projects have included Woodrow Wilson’s pool table, Cole Porter’s piano, and General Douglas McArthur’s desk, you are more likely to find Grandma’s sewing stand in our shop. Nothing is too small or The Boysunimportant.
Our unsurpassed furniture refinishing capabilities have made us a leader in the New York area. Whether it is an 18th century music box, or a modern 36′ corporate conference table, we’ve done it.
We are not limited to residential work. Since our doors opened in 1989, we have brought continuing high quality service to hotels such as The Waldorf-Astoria, The Hilton at Short Hills, The Plaza, The Drake, and many more. Other commercial clients include Cendant Corporation, Unilever, Johnson and Johnson.

These are a few of the many pieces that we have constructed for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC. On many occasions when furniture that matches the decor of given area is not available from show rooms or factories, we are asked to fabricate pieces that fit- in with unique design theme. Many of furnishings that we have produced, incorporate construction techniques that are rarely used in modern furniture manufacturing.
At Restorations, we use only the finest lacquers to restore your furniture to a beautiful and durable finish. With easy, minimal care, your furniture will look great for years to come. Simply clean with a damp (plain water) cotton cloth and wipe dry. After the first year you can use a little Liquid Pledge (that’s the one in the pump bottle). Aerosol Pledge is acceptable, however, not preferred as propellants tend to build up on furniture surfaces. No other furniture products are recommended. Caution is always recommended when hot items are placed on furniture surfaces. No finish is impervious to heat and damage may result. If you have a question regarding any other furniture cleaning/polishing product that you have a preference for, please call us.
This is a pair of large custom made architectural corbels. After our customer, who is a builder , exhausted every source trying to find a match to existing woodwork in a home, he came to us to have these carvings custom made. We hand carved these out of solid mahogany then finished them in white to match existing painted woodwork. Although not done frequently on this scale, we often have to reproduce carved accents on reproductions and antique restored pieces. This old-world style craftsmanship is almost non-existent today and is a great asset to our offerings as a custom woodworking and antique restoration shop. Peter Schichtel
